Indian VC Fundings It helps to have an early start and no major competitors in sight. That's the case with Munshikaka.com, an online provider of accounting services in India. Charging subscriptions that start at $10 to $20 for basic tax planning, the company also offers online tools for asset management and mutual funds. "The Internet offers a quick and easy way to simplify the complex process of accounting and tax planning," says K.N. Vaidyanathan, a cofounder and former business head of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Investment Management. The company got an early lead by signing up 2,000 corporate clients of large private-sector bank ICICI. It got $1 million in first round funding from ICICI Venture Fund. Hong Kong trade publisher Pacific Netmarkets has marched quickly into the online arena as a pan-Asian e-commerce solutions provider. Now with second-round funding of $14.5 million from Twinwood Engineering, it intends to develop a network of B2B vertical marketplaces for a mix of businesses, including food supply, printing, and pharmaceuticals -- all from Asia. honors Zubin Mehta, Galbraith, Netravali NEW DELHI - India announced Thursday the award of its second-highest civilian honor, Padma Vibhushan or Special Decoration of the Lotus, to Indian-born conductor Zubin Mehta and US economist and diplomat John Kenneth Galbraith. Arun Netravali, the Indian-born president of Bell Laboratories, the research arm of telecommunications giant Lucent Technologies, was awarded Padma Bhushan or Decoration of the Lotus, the third-highest civilian honor. The three were honored in the government's annual awards list, receiving decorations rarely given to foreigners, although each has an Indian connection. Germany-based Mehta and US-based Netravali were born and educated in India and Galbraith served as US ambassador in New Delhi. India also awarded Padma Vibhushan to Japan's Hosei Norota and Benjamin Arthur Gilman of the United States for their contribution to public affairs. IOC turnover set to surpass Rs 1,00,000 cr NEW DELHI - INDIAN Oil Corporation is likely to become the first Indian corporate to post a turnover of Rs 1 lakh crore in the current fiscal with a net profit of over Rs 2,700 crore, up from about Rs 94,000 crore in the last fiscal year. IOC, the only Fortune 500 company in the country, posted a net profit of Rs 2,443 crore in the last fiscal.
