For the needy children in
private schools and colleges, we have paid part of the school fees directly
to the educational institute. This education fund is not limited to any
community. The selection criteria
is the last mark sheet, signifying his/ her results and position in the
class AND a recommendation letter from the school principal or class
teacher.
Our
other education related activities include:
-
Started for the first
time in Mumbai a “Best Attendance Trophy” for BMC schools in each of the
24 wards of Mumbai. This is to encourage teachers to take active interest
in reducing the drop out rates in BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation)
schools.
-
Running 5 reading rooms
at Dharavi, Sion Jain society, Sion (E), Koliwada and King's Circle BMC
schools.
-
Conducted drawing
competition for over 1,000 slum children of Dharavi.
-
Distributed 1000
dozen notebooks in Sion-King's Circle area every year.
-
Started Mumbai’s first balwadi, under "Sarva sikshan abhiyan", at Koliwada
-
Organized a huge
‘Karmayogi Pratisthan education fund-raiser' at Shanmukhananda Hall,
King’s Circle on 31st July 2005 and another fund raiser on 7th August
2004, in benefit of CRY.
-
Career
guidance workshop for about 80 Antop Hill slum SSC students.
Civic
activities include:
- Won a Public Interest
Litigation (PIL) filed in Mumbai High Court, against the unjust towing
practices of the Mumbai Traffic Police. The court ruled that cars in
Mumbai cannot be towed by operators who have not been selected through a
tendering process and also contracts need to be signed. The traffic police
will also be responsible for damage caused to cars while being towed and
there needs to be a written authorization before any private vehicle can
be opened.
- Publishing a
newsletter "Die Hard Indian" since February 2000. Since June 2005,
publishing an electronic newsletter for local Sion-Matunga-Dadar-Wadala
residents.
- Dharavi demographics
and its Leather industry reports. Suggestions implemented.
- BEST Dedicated Bus
Lane report submitted to Mumbai Task Force. Suggestions implemented
- Police station Rangoli
function AND felicitation function for DCP Dr Sanjay Aparanti
- In co-ordination with
BMC, basic beautification efforts at Flank Road, Sion viz., road tarring,
